Then mark your calendar for the 2013 Mother Earth News Fair.
Mother Earth News, the largest and longest-running publication about self-sufficient lifestyles, will hold its third annual Mother Earth News Fair June 1-2, 2013 at the Puyallup Fairgrounds. The Fair runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
“The Fair grew tremendously last year, and we can’t wait to bring another top-notch lineup of workshops to Puyallup,” says Andrew Perkins, the Fair’s director.
Visitors can attend more than 150 hands-on workshops that cover organic gardening, food and food preservation, renewable energy, homesteading, small-scale livestock, green building and remodeling, natural health, green transportation, and related topics. Local and national experts on sustainable and rural lifestyle experts will lead the sessions.
The Fair will host its first fiber arts competition, too. Categories include spinning, weaving, knitting and crocheting in adult and youth classes. All entrants will receive free entry to the Fair. Participants must register online by May 24. The competition is sponsored by Mother Earth News, Wild Fibers Magazine and Storey Publishing.
In addition, the Fair will host an heirloom seed display, children’s activities, vendor and livestock demonstrations, a green shopping pavilion, and local and organic food options. Tickets cost $15 for the weekend or $10 for a one-day pass until Jan. 31.
Tickets will increase to $20 and $15, respectively, Feb. 1 and will cost $35 and $25 at the gate. Children 17 and under get in free. The event also will offer a limited number of VIP tickets. VIPs receive guaranteed seating at workshops, catered meals and other perks.
