Rainier Tourism and Sports is excited to unveil a star-studded new itinerary, Following in the Footsteps of Greatness, that highlights Pierce County’s rich history of celebrity influence and the Pacific Northwest's star power. The tour invites travelers to immerse themselves in the region’s culture and past, from historic train depots to iconic filming locations, and in the locales that have drawn talent from across the globe.

"This new itinerary provides a curated tour of the iconic locations and lesser-known spots that have shaped our city's rich cultural tapestry, from Bing Crosby's home to venues that have hosted some of the best performers in modern history, to the setting of the classic film 10 Things I Hate About You. We hope visitors will leave with some of the same energy and inspiration that ignited the creativity of the greats."
Spanning three days, Following in the Footsteps of Greatness takes visitors on a guided journey through the storied histories of Tacoma, Lakewood, University Place, and Puyallup, from their railroad and agricultural roots to their vibrant present as thriving cities and towns. The itinerary includes landmarks such as the Tacoma Dome, the Art House Cafe, and Union Station. It also features local restaurants loved by celebrities, the places where records were set and unique points of interest.
Legends with ties to Tacoma and Pierce County represent a menagerie of icons from Rudyard Kipling to the rock band Nirvana, and includes adventurers, athletes, authors, filmmakers, musicians and artists, making the region a living museum of cultural influences. In every chapter of its history, Pierce County has constantly reinvented itself while honoring its past as a setting for greatness. Visitors can choose from the same menu, tee off from the same tee box, and walk the same paths of some of the biggest names in modern American history.
