Viewers of the Chinese travel program Hong Kong Discovery will soon be treated to sweeping views of Mount Rainier, an up-close and personal encounter with a renowned glassblower and a stunning boat ride on Puget Sound. The Northwest is quickly becoming a popular destination for the Chinese travel market, and Visit Tacoma-Pierce County + Pierce County has capitalized on that interest by hosting a three-day media familiarization tour for a five-person film crew. From their weeklong visit to the area, they will produce a 13-episode series with a focus on adventure and ecotourism in the Northwest. In addition to television exposure in Hong Kong, the production will promote the region to Chinese viewers through a mix of web, radio and social media spots.
Filming locations in Pierce County included Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, Mount Rainier National Park, Gig Harbor History Museum, Museum of Glass and Washington State History Museum. The crew also filmed in Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula.
The media tour was done in partnership with Visit Tacoma-Pierce County + Pierce County, Visit Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula Visitor Bureau.
The episodes are set to air next year.
