A table for two is a good start. Sometimes, though, the date you remember involves a paintbrush, a pinball machine or a piece of glass you made yourself. Here are ten ways to spend Valentine’s Day together in Tacoma and Pierce County, with room to make a weekend of it.

Book a Spa Day
Give yourselves an afternoon with nothing to rush toward. Spa Serein at Silver Cloud Hotel Tacoma at Point Ruston Waterfront offers massage and skin care beside the Salish Sea. Serenity Spa is another option for a restorative date, with locations in Tacoma, University Place and Gig Harbor. Ask about appointments for two when you book; treatment menus and availability vary by location.
Try a Painting Class
A painting date comes with a souvenir, even if one of you turns out to be better at mixing colors than drawing straight lines. Open Arts Studio offers art classes in Tacoma’s Stadium District, including painting, drawing and ceramics. For a paint-and-sip outing, check Uncorked Canvas for Tacoma-area events at partner venues. Pick a specific class before making dinner plans, and check what supplies and drinks are included.
Visit a Museum
Let someone else supply the conversation starters. Explore Northwest art at Tacoma Art Museum, or watch glass take shape in the Hot Shop at Museum of Glass. At the time of this update, Museum of Glass’s traditional galleries are closed for a renovation scheduled through December 2026, while the Hot Shop, education studio, store and café remain open. Make a Glass Keepsake Together
Trade the usual gift exchange for time at the furnace. At Tacoma Glassblowing Studio, an instructor guides you through making your own glass keepsake. Reserve an experience for each person who wants to participate, wear closed-toe shoes and allow time for the studio’s arrival instructions. Your glass needs to cool afterward, so plan for a later pickup or ask about shipping when you book.
Make a Winter Mountain Escape
A snowy mountain day takes a little more planning than a waterfront stroll, but the change of scene is hard to beat. For winter recreation at Mount Rainier National Park, check road access, weather, tire-chain requirements and current ranger programs before leaving. Snowshoe walks depend on conditions and the seasonal program schedule.
Crystal Mountain’s Mount Rainier Gondola is a separate outing outside the national park. Check winter sightseeing availability and operating conditions before buying tickets; a scenic ride is weather-dependent. A nearby overnight stay leaves more time for the trip and less pressure to squeeze it into an afternoon.

A little friendly encouragement goes a long way on a climbing wall. Try bouldering at Climb Tacoma, now at 3729 S. Lawrence Street, or explore the options at Edgeworks Tacoma. Check first-visit instructions, classes and equipment rentals before arriving.
Prefer to keep both feet closer to the floor? Look at Prana Puyallup or Expand Yoga’s Tacoma studio for a class together. For a classic winter date, check the public skating schedule at Sprinker Recreation Center. Falling gracefully is optional.
Go Shopping and Pick Out a Special Item for Each Other
Set a budget, choose a shopping district and split up briefly to find a gift for each other. It could be a secondhand book, a vintage serving dish or something neither of you knew you needed. Tacoma’s antique shops and Pierce County’s independent boutiques give you plenty to browse. Meet back up over coffee for the reveal. The point is knowing your person, not winning on price.
Stay the Night in a Fancy Hotel
Sometimes the best part of a date is not having to drive home afterward. Turn an evening out into a small getaway with a room at a Tacoma–Pierce County hotel. Choose the amenities that matter to you, whether that is a water view, an on-site restaurant or a spa appointment. Check what is included in your rate and reserve any dining or treatments separately.
Play Games at an Arcade
Pinball gives a first date something to do between conversations, and a longtime couple an entirely new score to settle. The Triple Knock on Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue is an option for guests 21 and older. In Puyallup, Flip OFF! Arcade pairs retro arcade games with pinball. Check current hours and entry policies, bring your competitive streak and agree ahead of time whether best two out of three is binding.
Catch a Romantic Sunset
If the forecast cooperates, take a late-afternoon walk along Ruston Way and stay for the changing light over the water. February’s short days make this an early date: check sunset time, dress for the waterfront and keep a warm indoor backup in mind. A thermos and a shared treat can do more for the occasion than an elaborate picnic in the rain.
