The volunteer rate in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area ranks No. 4 among U.S. large cities, according to a new study. Only Minneapolis-St. Paul, Salt Lake City and Portland, OR have a higher volunteer rate for big cities, according to the Federal Corporation for National and Community Service.
Between 2008 and 2010, the Seattle-Tacoma area had 930,300 volunteers. A total of 33.9 percent of residents did some sort of volunteering, donating 120.7 million hours of service, or 44 hours per resident, and they contributed $2.6 billion of service.
