As home to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, as well as the 25,000 active-duty soldiers and their families stationed there, Pierce County and the Tacoma area are big supporters of the military. To honor those who have served, this Veterans Day, local businesses and organizations are offering discounts to local or visiting veterans and military retirees. Here are a few of those businesses who want to honor our servicemembers:
Free, or discounted admission
Free admission for all veterans November 11-13, immediate family members will receive half-off general admission. To receive your discount, bring your active military/veteran identification card, discharge papers, DD214s, or any other proof of honorable US military service with you to the Zoo.
In honor of Veterans Day, active duty, retirees and veterans receive complimentary Museum admission on Friday, November 11! Please bring valid military ID or proof of service.
Admission is free on Veterans Day for active-duty, retired military, and their families. Join us as we commemorate Veterans Day with a program by Lawrence Matsuda, author of the graphic novel Fighting for America: Nisei Soldiers. Matsuda presents the stories of several Nisei U.S. citizens who volunteered into service in the U.S. Army while incarcerated in internment camps during WWII.
To celebrate Veterans’ Day, Northwest Trek is offering FREE admission on November 11, 12, and 13 to all individuals who are currently serving or have honorably served in the U.S. military. Immediate family members will receive half-off general admission.
Free admission to Museum of Glass for active and retired military and their families, on Veterans Day.
The Children’s Museum of Tacoma gives thanks to the United States service men and women. Join us in honoring our military veterans on Friday, November 11, by coming dressed in red, white and blue. Additionally, each hour Museum staff will lead visitors in a patriotic bubble parade.
In gratitude for your service to our country, we are offering free admission to veterans on Friday, November 11, 2016.
In honor of Veterans Day, all entrance fees will be waived for Friday, November 11. Be advised that as of November 1st, tire chains are required for all vehicles entering the park.
Complimentary meals
On November 10, all six locations of Duke’s Chowder House will be serving complimentary bowls of their award-winning All Natural New England Clam Chowder to veterans in honor of military troops—both active and retired—and their families. All other guests pay $1 for a small bowl. Duke’s matches every dollar and donates the proceeds to Seattle Veteran’s Hospital, part of the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.
On Veterans Day, Veterans and Active Duty members can choose from several menu items to enjoy for free. Simply show proof of military service.
A free doughnut and small coffee will be given to anyone who identifies themselves as a veteran or active military personal (no ID required) on Veterans Day.
To thank active and retired Armed Forces members, Panera is offering a free coffee and pastry with proof of service or ID.
A free pizza is available with proof of ID for active or retired service members, valid on Veterans Day. A 15% discount is provided for families and dependents.
In honor of Veterans Day, all Veterans and Active Duty military members can receive a free burger, and of course, bottomless fries. No purchase is necessary. Just show proof of service and enjoy your meal.

The 10th annual Veterans Day observance at War Memorial Park, sponsored by Tacoma Historical Society in partnership with American Legion Post 8. Featuring keynote speaker: Major General Bret D. Daugherty, Adjutant General, Washington National Guard.
“A Salute to What Women Bring to the Fight” exhibit at the Fox Island Historical Society is an observance of the role female veterans have played throughout historical war efforts.
